FAQ

What is the tolerance on conductor resistance?

Conductor DC resistance at 20 degrees C is specified and tested to IEC 60228 and must not exceed the tabulated value - no positive tolerance is permitted. Our routine test records the measured resistance of every length, and the value appears on the test certificate.

What tolerance applies to insulation and sheath thickness?

The average thickness must not be less than the nominal value, and the minimum thickness at any point must not fall below nominal minus the tolerance given in the standard (for example 0.1 mm plus 10 percent of nominal under IEC 60502-1). Thickness is measured on every production batch.

Can you provide current rating (ampacity) data?

Yes. We provide ratings based on IEC 60364-5-52 or whichever standard your project uses, covering the installation methods you specify (in air, in duct, buried, grouped). Ratings change with ambient temperature, soil thermal resistivity and grouping factor, so please give us the installation conditions and we will send figures your engineer can actually use.

Can you calculate voltage drop for us?

Yes. Send the route length, load current, power factor and permissible voltage drop, and we will confirm the minimum cross-section that satisfies it. On long runs the voltage drop, not the current rating, often governs the size - worth checking before the bill of quantities is fixed.

Is the cable metre-marked?

Yes. All cable is printed with sequential metre marking, the manufacturer name, the standard number and the year of manufacture, as required by the applicable standard. This lets the installer verify the delivered length and lets us trace any drum back to its production batch.

What cross-section range can you produce?

LV power cable from 1.5 mm2 to 630 mm2, MV cable from 25 mm2 to 630 mm2, and overhead conductor up to 800 mm2. Larger sizes and non-standard constructions are reviewed case by case - send the requirement and we will confirm feasibility.
